I'm looking for a good set of POIs for Blue Badge parking. I've had a look at some, but if someone has used a set which are recommended, then I would rather do it that way than have pot luck. Maybe they don't exist, as the file must be pretty comprehensive.
In hope...

I have downloaded the ov2 files from the site recommended by spook51 what do I do with them now? This is my guess:-
1. Full backup using windows.
2. Copy ov2 file into map folder.
The only part that I know is right is no 1.
There is also a bmp file available that shows the disabled badge sign what would I do with that if i download it? |

1. Yes
2. Yes
Also copy the BMP otherwise there won't be anything to show on the map. |

You probably realise it but the bmp file goes in the same map folder with the OV2 pois. _________________ David

Thanks for that. I notice that the zip file available from this site has the bmp file included, so a separate download for the icon is not needed.
I'll have a look at that one, meanwhile if anyone has actually used it, it would be helpful to have some feedback to indicate how comprehensive the coverage in the Uk is. Thanks.

Unfortunately neither is comprehensive dependant on the area your looking for both have areas not covered by the other and both have some duplicates, obviously I can only speak for the locations I know, if you want to make ot more comprehensive for yourself then i would suggest that you download both and use poiedit to append them both and delete the the duplicates as you can see them on the map in poiedit.
but please put any of your own known ones in the pgpsw database. _________________ Moto G5s Plus, Sygic 17.4.8 |

For information there are 103 locations in the pgpsw database and 900 in the blue badge one, but having said that if you visited my area you will find twelve locations in the pgpsw one and only two duplicates in the blue badge one (probably because i put them in) so it would be very hard to say which one would be better for any individual,
I have downloaded both and will be looking for duplicates to compile into one set.
I also note that in the blue badge listing quite a lot are actually supermarket car parks which seem to be moving towards limited and penal parking which i would expect to have disabled parking as standard plus a couple simply detailed wifi, and the blue badge one initially appears to be quantity over quality (i.e. BP Garage 1 space on forecourt) so it would appear you takes your choice. _________________ Moto G5s Plus, Sygic 17.4.8 |

| Is there some way we can post Blue Badge Places we find that are not on the database to build up one of the best available then PGPSW will have two of the very best sets of data available? |

Certainly, Eric.
In a very similar way to reporting a new speed camera, you can make a report to add or correct ANY of the PGPSW points of interest on a submission map HERE (the link is also in the column on the far left of this page - "submit POIs")
Unless the POI database supremo says otherwise, I think the details you need to put in the boxes are:
Category: Transport
Sub-Category: Disabled Parking |

Good idea, Andy. I have just submitted three, known to me locally. I'll do more as I used them. If other members do the same, perhaps we can get a much needed database of Blue Badge parking places in the UK. I was prompted to start this thread by a request from a disabled Paralympic Athlete who complained that his TomTom did not have the 'necessary' POIs for his needs. Hence, I started seaching to see if I could help. I really would have thought that there would be a national database.

There is a National Database of sorts on the directgov site but unforunately it is map based so of no use to satnavs.
find it here http://bluebadge.direct.gov.uk/

| Many thanks for all the responses I will install the PGPSW database and icon to start with and then see how well the updating process works when I find some to add. |

I see on the DirGov site that the map info is provided by Navteq and another company. I wonder if an enquiry to either of them (or DirGov itself) might reveal a POI database in existence or in development? Also (unlikely, I guess) they might already show up in the POI lists of some Navteq-based satnavs - there isn't a category on my Navigon, I have to say. _________________ David
