Not going to help much.... Unfortunately, (typical TomTom), they haven't updated that compatibility chart to include the Go1000 yet. 
It does read them out from my Sony Ericsson W595 though. |

thx chaps,had seen the chart the other day.As you said theres nothing there for the 1000.I have a iphone 3gs,so i guess i will have to wait and see if anyone on here has the same setup that i will have once xmas comes.The 1000 has got to be a lot better than my old but faithfull tomtom 1 3rd edition.

The chart shows iPhone 3GS does not do SMS on ANY TomTom model so far. It would be a bit of a surprise if TT introduced it with the 1000.
