				|
 |
				| TomTom has admitted that a leap year bug is behind the issues many users have reported with loss of satellite reception.

The issue first came to light on 31 March with many users reporting problems obtaining a satellite fix. The bug appears to affect the GPS QuickFix files.

TomTom have a page here which states they are working in a fix.

The issue seems to be affecting a wide range of models. Are you experiencing this issue?

The original thread on this issue can be found here.

Update: Wednesday 4th April. TomTom have now posted a software update:

  	  | Quote: | | TomTom releases new software update to solve GPS reception issue on some devices.
Some customers have been experiencing GPS positioning issues since 31st March. The issue is caused by a ‘leap year’ bug in the software of the GPS receiver provided by a third party.

A software update fixing the issue is now available via MyTomTom. The update is straightforward. Simple instructions about how to update your device can be found at http://www.tomtom.com/386.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience. We are fully focused on getting our impacted customers back on the road.

				| What are Tomtom playing at ?????????? They seem to be running out of feet in which to shoot themselves.

I have a Go 1005 Europe with the latest maps and software, which will only work after a 'drum roll' restart.

I have 18 days left to run on my live services.

I am now asking myself why I should renew, or even stick with Tomtom kit at all after this fiasco?

My TT Go 700 was brilliant, perhaps I will have to dig it out of the cupboard.

 Signed - EXASPERATED!

				| I wonder why Darren locked the previous thread that started this topic off, here rather than adding his input to the existing topic to keep things organised. Oh, I remember, it's his ball (and rules) and he's the ref

Mainly because creting a news item automatically creates a new forum post and there's o simple way to relink the news item to the other post...

				| I dropped my TomTom GO300 on Saturday. After it would not find a GPS signal, said GPS reception poor. I was in the process of finding a repairer
in the UK when I came across this article on BBC News
 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-17599701

Now I wonder if it was as a result of being dropped or the "bug". I suspect
the former as it was working OK before I drooped it. However, it was 31st
March when I dropped it and this is the date the problem emerged.

Has anyone actually experienced the problem as described in the BBC article?

 Regards

				| Well there you go! There had to be a good reason, and you've explained it most succinctly. Respect :=)

Plenty, see the linked thread in my news item and the very long thread on TT's own forums. It's affecting a great many users!

Do it!! Or send it to me (mine died, unfortunately, best one they made including all the latest wide screen, Live, IQ stuff, buddies, you-name-it). Why oh why couldn't they have simply rebuilt it into a widescreen case?

				| I've just updated the latest software to overcome the problem and it's made no difference. Still waiting for a valid GPS signal | |

You would, because you'd get an email that there was a reply, you'd read the last post (from Darren) where he explained that the discussion was moved this this thread.

They are now saying the original fault lay in the third-party software supplied by the GPS chip manufacturer.

I think that this time they have been pretty swift at finding a solution.
